The agenda featured technical talks from NI’s industry specialists, live demos covering a variety of applications, and hands-on sessions featuring PXI and CompactDAQ systems.

What’s New at NI

NI presented a range of new offerings and shared some insights into their future roadmaps. Here’s a brief overview of some of the key topics discussed. 

Software Updates

• Nigel AL Advisor: You can now chat with Nigel in both LabVIEW and TestStand! Nigel is an AI advisor designed to answer domain-specific questions and provide helpful guidance as you develop in LabVIEW or TestStand.
• FlexLogger Evolution: NI launched a community-driven plug-in repository and a LabVIEW plug-in developer kit to perform higher-level functions in FlexLogger. They also released a LabVIEW Automation API that allows the programmatic control of FlexLogger from LabVIEW.
• InstrumentStudio SCPI Instrument Panels: You can now create and interact with SCPI instrument panels in NI InstrumentStudio, enabling you to control SCPI-compatible instruments, retrieve data and screenshots, and manage configurations.
• New Software License Options: NI has reintroduced perpetual licenses alongside their current subscription licenses for all NI test software.

Hardware Updates

• PXI RF Test Portfolio Expansion: NI expanded its RF lineup with higher-frequency and wider-bandwidth VSTs, including the new PXIe-5860. Enhancements also include improved VNAs, agile attenuators, and RFmx software updates supporting Wi-Fi 8, 3GPP, and Bluetooth channel sounding.
• Updated CompactDAQ Hardware: NI’s upgrades include a few hardware updates to the CompactDAQ offering. NI released a new USB-C chassis that has improved ruggedness at a lower cost, which comes in 1, 4, and 8-slot options. They also released new snap-in connector modules for the C-series DAQs, providing easier wiring and module swaps.
• mioDAQ Improvements: NI has continued to improve the recently released mioDAQ with new features in the 2025 Q2 release of the DAQmx Driver, as well as releasing an OEM version for embedded applications.
• New FieldDAQs Released: : New models of the ultra-rugged FieldDAQ devices are here! They feature IP65/67-rated waterproof and dust-tight designs, shock and vibration resistance over 100 g/10 grms, and a temperature range from -40°C to 85°C.

Location 

There’s no shortage of entertainment in Dallas, and the DMC office is right in the heart of it. Located on the north end of Uptown, DMC is surrounded by bars, restaurants, fitness centers, grocery stores, and much more that are all within walking/scootering distance. Notably, the Katy Trail is right in our backyard. The Katy Trail is uptown’s famous walking and biking path that spans 3.5 miles and is home to the BEST outdoor bar in the country, the Katy Trail Ice House. Apartment buildings scatter the nearby area, allowing both John and Ryan to walk only a few minutes to work (weather permitting). 

The Office 

The DMC team moved into the awesome new space in early September, and we all are loving it. Windows cover the walls letting in a ton of natural light, and we’re lucky enough to have a view of some greenery with the trail just outside.

The DMC internal operations team equipped the office with everything we could ask for, including a ping pong table and a miniature basketball hoop. We are also planning on building a collection of automation hardware to set up a lab space where we can do in-house testing and training in the future.

The DMC Dallas team 

Ryan Landwehr, John Williams, and I currently make up the DMC Dallas team. Although none of us are originally from Texas, we have all lived in Texas for more than four years and have embraced the place we now call home.

We are all big sports fans and, as a result, very competitive. We've used that competitiveness to bond, not only at the ping pong table but also numerous Saturdays on the basketball court.

We also all share a love of eating, so a good portion of our activity fund budget goes towards trying different restaurants in the area. Every once in a while, Ryan will show off his grilling or smoking skills, and we’ll get together to eat and relax on a Sunday afternoon. Some other fun activity fund outings have included trips to Cidercade, an awesome bar-cade that sells only cider, and to American Airlines Center to watch the Mavericks play.

Originally, Adam and I were supposed to host the party together, but unfortunately, an onsite project called him to Kentucky that week, so it was up to me to decide on the welcome party location. I knew I had to pick somewhere unique, that I wouldn’t be able to get at home in Dallas.

Carnivale

My Chicago co-workers mentioned Carnivale to me while I was brainstorming where to host the welcome party. To me, it sounded like a fun opportunity to try something new, and it exceeded my expectations! The inside of the restaurant was terrific. The restaurant’s artwork covered walls are festive and brightly colored, giving it a bold ambiance. It was a unique experience and felt like we were in the middle of a real Carnivale celebration!

The restaurant features food from all over Latin America, including Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, and Chile. We had appetizers like grilled lamb racks, shrimp skewers, and al pastor sliders.

After dinner, we made the extra effort to find a place to continue the party. The West Loop location of Carnivale made it easy to find another place for an after-party.

The After-Party

We moved on to Green Street Smoked Meats, which was only an eight-minute walk away. We snacked on smoked brisket and a couple of different sides. Several of us shared pitchers of different kinds of beer

From Dallas to Chicago

In all, the party was a great experience. I tried some wild cocktails and new foods, and I bonded with a lot of the team. Training in Chicago and having a welcome party with such a big turnout helped me feel part of DMC.

I’m in the Dallas office now, but even though there are several offices across the country I don’t feel separated because I’ve met a lot of DMCers already! The welcome party experience helped me acclimate to my new job, and I made some great memories along the way.
