These user groups meet regularly across the country to address various <strong><a href="https://static.dmcinfo.com/services/test-and-measurement-automation/labview-programming">LabVIEW programming</a></strong> techniques, technologies, application design patterns, and much more.&nbsp;</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" alt="" src="https://static.dmcinfo.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/1-LabVIEW-Chicago_1.jpg"  /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This meeting began with Pizza and networking between DMCers and LabVIEW users from the Chicagoland area.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" alt="" src="https://static.dmcinfo.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/2-LabVIEW-Chicago_1.png"  /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We kicked off the user group meeting by highlighting some of the most exciting features that were released at NI week this year.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><a href="//www.slideshare.net/DMCChicago/ni-week-2019-overview" target="_blank" title="NI Week 2019 Overview">NI Week 2019 Overview</a></strong></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>DMC Presentations on LabVIEW Programming</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Systems Engineer Ryan Yu presented an overview of NI Package Manager, with content initially developed by National Instruments and presented by Allen Hsu.&nbsp; Yu showed LabVIEW users the workflow for installing, upgrading, and managing NI software. &nbsp;He then highlighted the workflow of both NI Package Manager and SystemLink, when used in conjunction with LabVIEW. Users exchanged ideas with Yu and asked questions on use cases, versioning, and SystemLink feeds.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><a href="//www.slideshare.net/DMCChicago/best-practices-for-building-and-distributing-componentized-lab-view-applications" target="_blank" title="NI Package Manager">NI Package Manager</a></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Systems Engineer Kyle Mitchell demonstrated JKI&rsquo;s VI Package Manager, a reasonably popular tool among the user group. Mitchell gave a walkthrough on&nbsp;how to build and deploy packages within LabVIEW, and users shared their experiences and tips about VIPM.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><a href="//www.slideshare.net/DMCChicago/vi-package-manager" target="_blank" title="VI package manager">VI package manager</a> </strong></p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Sharing LabVIEW Stories</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This section of the meeting is devoted to&nbsp;short topics (max of 10 minutes) talking about a neat project, cool tool, or&nbsp;challenging problem users&nbsp;need help solving.&nbsp;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Users shared stories about creating a custom VI to update UI elements through property nodes more effectively, warned&nbsp;about big arrays affecting the search feature, and one&nbsp;user shared a story about how to do LabVIEW translations effectively.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" alt="" src="https://static.dmcinfo.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/3-LabVIEW-Chicago.jpg"  /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There was also a shoutout to the&nbsp;<a href="https://labviewwiki.org/wiki/Home">LabVIEW wiki</a>&nbsp;that the community is currently constructing.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Thanks to our friends in the LabVIEW user group who made it to the event!</p>

The SystemLink software manages and enables tasks such as software deployment, device configuration, health and test monitoring, and data management and visualization. DMC is a SystemLink Specialty Partner, a recognition from NI in DMC’s level of experience in deploying SystemLink solutions.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="427" src="https://static.dmcinfo.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Alliance_Partner_Program_Systemlink-1024x427.png" alt="Alliance Partner Program System Link Specialty National Instruments" class="wp-image-1806" style="width:496px;height:auto" srcset="https://static.dmcinfo.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Alliance_Partner_Program_Systemlink-1024x427.png 1024w, https://static.dmcinfo.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Alliance_Partner_Program_Systemlink-300x125.png 300w, https://static.dmcinfo.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Alliance_Partner_Program_Systemlink-768x320.png 768w, https://static.dmcinfo.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/Alliance_Partner_Program_Systemlink.png 1171w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One particularly interesting use case of SystemLink is the <strong>ability to monitor, update, and manage fleets of NI devices</strong> in far-away, remote locations.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Imagine the following scenario. There is a large fleet of <a href="http://www.ni.com/en-us/shop/compactrio.html" target="_blank">NI Compact RIOs</a> performing data acquisition tasks hundreds of miles away at a wind farm in the middle of Texas. Suddenly you get a call that something is wrong. Normally, troubleshooting and deploying software updates to that many remote, real-time devices would be a significant task. More than likely, you would be booking a flight to Texas to resolve the issue. However, with SystemLink, you would be able to look at live analytics from your connected devices to diagnose the issue, make any necessary software changes, and push the patched software to your entire fleet of NI Compact RIOs without leaving the comfort of your desk!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In this tutorial, we’ll walk through <strong>how to connect a remote NI device to a SystemLink server </strong>as a managed device to enable the monitoring and software management tools that it provides!</p>

<h2 id="h-requirements" class="wp-block-heading">Requirements</h2>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Your device must have a valid internet connection</li>

<li>Your device must have a <a href="http://www.ni.com/documentation/en/systemlink/latest/setup/setting-up-systemlink-client-linux/" target="_blank">firmware version of 4.0 or higher</a> (for cRIOs)</li>

<li>Your device must have enough memory. <a href="https://forums.ni.com/t5/SystemLink/Issues-with-Installing-Software-to-a-remote-cRIO/td-p/3886386" target="_blank">NI recommends devices with 512MB or more of RAM</a></li>

<li>Your device must have the NI SystemLink Client software installed

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Supported Clients

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>NI PXI: Windows 7+</li>

<li>NI CompactRIO: NI Linux RT 2017</li>

<li>Windows PC: Windows 7+</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
</li>

<li>You must have a SystemLink server setup

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Supported Servers
