SharePoint wiki pages are a great way to collaborate with coworkers and team members. You can add and edit information, links, and pictures to a wiki page through an easy process.

SharePoint wikis have a wide range of uses. Here at DMC, we use wiki pages to host our Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Our SOPs often contain links to other SharePoint pages. Recently, we reorganized our SharePoint taxonomy, otherwise known as a scheme of classification. During this process, some site’s base URLs changed which caused some of the links in our wiki to become outdated.

With over 700 wiki pages, manually validating every link in each page was out of the question. To solve this problem, we developed a program using SharePoint’s client object model that replaced every outdated link with an updated one.

Client Object Model Background

The SharePoint client object model (CSOM) gives developers access to SharePoint data without requiring direct access to the server. CSOM is commonly used for updating lists and list items. In this demonstration, we will update a list of wiki pages.

Demonstration

Below is example code for updating the text of wiki pages using the client object model, which can be used for accessing SharePoint sites, lists, and items without direct access to the server. Explanations for the code are written in-line with comments.

1. Set up a connection to the SharePoint site, and load the list to edit.

DMC is proud to announce that it has achieved Microsoft’s Silver Partner Status for Business Intelligence (BI) solutions. This achievement recognizes DMC’s proven ability to help customers monitor, analyze and plan business performance based on actionable business insight. DMC’s BI service offerings are geared towards helping clients identify and define high-level Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), design visually appealing dashboards, and complete technical data integration.

Learn more about DMC’s Business Intelligence (BI) service offerings

Equipped with exclusive training & support from Microsoft on their latest software products, including Microsoft SQL Server 2012, Microsoft Power BI, and SharePoint Server 2013, DMC is able to deliver enterprise solutions that set clients apart from the competition. Office 365’s BI offerings and Excel 2013’s PowerPivot features can also be exploited to deliver powerful solutions for individuals and departments that lack budgets to invest in enterprise software.

To earn a Microsoft Silver competency, partners must successfully demonstrate expertise through rigorous exams, culminating in Microsoft certifications. And to ensure the highest quality of services, Microsoft requires customer references for successful implementation and customer satisfaction.

“This Microsoft Silver Business Intelligence competency complements our existing Microsoft Gold competencies in Application Development and Collaboration & Content. It further showcases our expertise in today’s technology market and demonstrates our knowledge of Microsoft and its products,” said Rick Rietz, Director of Consulting Services. “Our plan is to accelerate our customers’ success by serving as technology advisors for their business demands.”

“By achieving a Silver competency, organizations have proven their expertise in specific technology areas, placing them among the top 5 percent of Microsoft partners worldwide,” said Jon Roskill, corporate vice president, Worldwide Partner Group at Microsoft Corp. “When customers look for an IT partner to meet their business challenges, choosing a company that has attained Microsoft competencies is a smart move. These are highly qualified professionals with access to Microsoft technical support and product teams.”

DMC’s BI solutions are often designed to leverage existing data and investments in the Microsoft stack of technologies. Solutions may include the use of .NET and SQL Server database tools to provide technical data integration, Microsoft Power BI tools for analysis, and SharePoint Server or Office 365 for presentation to end users.

Please contact DMC if you have questions or need help getting your Business Intelligence initiative off the ground. DMC would welcome the opportunity to help.
